Thank you to all those who responded to last month’s survey about the best time of year to move home.
The majority of our respondents said that they would prefer to move either in the spring stating that they wanted to enjoy their new property in the summer. A few of our respondents noted that they like to move during the summer so that they can be settled before their children join a new school in September.
All of our respondents, however, stated that they would be happy to move outside of their preferred period. Practical considerations motivate this response, as the comments show a willingness to move quickly should the perfect property or a good deal come available.
This approach is definitely sensible – it’s important to be ready to move if the opportunity presents itself.
January is a time when many such opportunities appear. Whether your New Year’s resolution is to move out of a property you don’t like, having family to stay at Christmas has made you realise your home is too small, or you simply want to move before the price rise forecast for spring and summer, now is an excellent time to start your search.
It’s therefore important to get your property on the market early in order to benefit from the New Year’s surge in interest and go under offer as quickly as possible.
Getting your property on the market also provides it with the chance of catching the eye of someone who is not yet actively looking. Flexible movers often wait until the perfect property is available before registering with the agent who lists it. If your property does not appear online, they may stay put and you may miss out on your perfect buyer or tenant.
Whenever you choose to move, and whether you are buying or selling, renting or letting, we look forward to helping you with your property search in 2019.
