August Market Insight


As summer makes way for autumn we can now reflect on the business done during July and August which are typically busy months for the lettings industry and a period often cited as quiet for some in the sales market.


The levels of applicant registrations, viewings, offers and agreed tenancies completed during July and August at Thorgills has shown the strong seasonal consistency that was expected. The summer months offer longer days for evening viewing tours, lower workloads which provide easier opportunities to take annual leave, and recent graduates taking on new rentals as existing tenants leave their current properties to move elsewhere.


In contrast to some of the media output over the summer, the last two months have proven successful for the Thorgills sales teams. There has been the typical dip in new properties coming to the market, however the number of people registering to buy a property remained high. This in turn meant that those properties that were available went under offer swiftly as buyers had less choice and more competition. Sellers were eager to agree a sale, wary of how the market could change in the future.


This summer Thorgills teams have put the hard work in, agreed the deals with the right people and set impressive new company records, so any suggestion that agents kick back when the sun is shining is vehemently refuted here!
