Transport links are very good, although it depends where you are in Acton. There are no fewer than seven stations in the area, served by the Central line, Piccadilly line, and District line, as well as the Overground network. It is possible to be in Paddington in seven minutes, and new connections are being added all the time. The A40, M4 and North Circular Road are within easy reach, and there are plenty of bus routes.

The centre of Acton is the stretch of Uxbridge Road commonly known as Acton High Street, at the point where it passes The Mount - a marketplace that backs onto a large Morrison's store. Nearby is Acton Park, which has a friendly cafe and is popular with families, and Churchfield Road, which feels like the heart of an upmarket village with independent shops and cafes surrounded by sought-after period terraces, including the streets collectively known as 'Poet's Corner' (on account of the streets all being named after poets; Shakespeare Road, Milton Road, Chaucer Road, and so on). Leisure activities are not generally Acton's strongest suit, but there is a complex near Park Royal with a bowling alley, cinema and restaurants, and a number of neighbourhood and chain restaurants scattered throughout the area. For theatre, live music and so on, Acton residents travel to Ealing, Shepherds Bush, Chiswick or beyond. For open space there is Gunnersbury Park, with its pitch-and-putt course and Palladian mansion, on the doorstep.

Acton is growing in popularity, even though parts of it are yet to be fully gentrified. The area around North Acton tube station, for example, retains an industrial feel, despite recent residential developments, with companies including Boden having offices and warehouses along the streets leading to the A40. Areas like this tend to attract first-time buyers and are also popular with the buy-to-let market, due to the convenient location. Other areas, such as the Hanger Hill garden estate, which is made up of wide roads and attractive 1930s mock-Tudor homes, have always been upmarket and elegant.
